The Katy Holmes Trust : Pyjama Day : 18th January 2013

The Katy Holmes Trust’s Pyjama Day

18th January 2013

Russell is pictured with Paula and David Holmes in the Lancashire Evening Post’s  report of 9th January about  The Katy Holmes Trust‘s charity ‘Pyjama Day’ on 18th.

Russell met them at the  Preston Christmas Lights Switch-On  on 17th November 2012 and agreed to become a  patron  of the Trust.

For more on the Trust and the PJ Day, see the Trusts’s own webpage.

Why is this charity worth supporting?

Paula talks about what happened to Katy in this YouTube video of February 2012…

Beautiful 10 year old Katy Holmes didn’t stand a chance when she was diagnosed with a Brainstem Diffuse Pontine Glioma. The prognosis was 6-9 months and the only treatment available was steroids and radiotherapy – the same as 40 years ago. Katy died after 3 months.
Brain tumours are now the BIGGEST cancer killer of children in the UK. They are still considered to be ‘rare’ though! The Government only gives 0.7% towards research which is approximately £1M.
All the money raised through the Katy Holmes Trust will go towards funding crucial brain tumour research and hopefully either finding more effective treatments, better medicines and eventually a cure.”

Russell and Team supported the event and he asked folk to Tweet or use Facebook to send him pictures of themselves in their PJs. He kindly offered to award tickets to a forthcoming concert for the ones he judged the best!

Team Russell got up a few days early in their PJs (16th Jan) to show how it should be done…

It was suggested that if a ‘PJ’ Day isn’t possible, then a ‘Dress Down’ or ‘Non-Uniform’ Day might be, and that a donation of £1 per person be considered.

To donate, please see the Trust’s webpage for donations.

Don’t forget that if you’re a UK taxpayer you can painlessly increase the value of your donation by 20% through Gift Aid – just tick the appropriate boxes on the form.

Friday 18th January: Update :

Lots of pictures Tweeted to and by Russell.  Some of his own have clearly been well-planned and we find them hilarious.  Thanks Russell, Louise, Gary, Victoria, Blaze, Marcus and everyone else who has joined in with their pictures!.  If you’re on Twitter, do have a look at what has been sent in.  He has re-tweeted some of them and they can be seen by looking at his own account – @russellthevoice –  but to see them all search on #@russellthevoice  and you’ll see what has been sent to his account.  If you’re not on Twitter, go on, sign up,  or check out his  Facebook  page.
