6th July 2018

A whole galaxy of stars have turned out to help create a special recording of The Beatles’ song “With A Little Help From My Friends” in recognition of the 70th anniversary of the UK’s National Health Service. Russell, who has had his own well documented history of using the Service, reportedly lends his voice briefly to  the track; see if you can identify him …

Recently discovered and shared by a fellow fan, this audio recording gives a flavour of what we have missed by the cancellation, last year, of the musical production Heaven On Earth in which Russell’s recorded voice was to have been used as the Voice Of God.

For those who particularly enjoy reading about Russell’s affection for his dogs, there is an article in the latest edition of  Dogs Monthly magazine.  We haven’t seen it yet and are waiting for our recently ordered copy to come in the post.

You can order single copies directly from the publisher or read it on-line (we prefer print!).

22nd March 2018

Russell had a great time chatting at some length with Eleri Sion this afternoon on BBC Radio Wales and you can now ‘Listen Again‘ from 2 hours 24 minutes.

Lovely to hear ‘Someone To Remember Me‘ played in full.

18th March 2018

Photographer Paul W Dixon was at at Buxton Opera House to take a good number of pictures that are currently with Russell for review and, it’s to be hoped, used in the future but several have been released already …

Thanks, Paul … lovely pictures.

13th March 2018

Russell announces an extensive ‘extension’ of the Canzone d’Amore Tour …

The latest (printed) issue of TV Times shows that Russell is to be one of Jane McDonald‘s friends appearing on her show on Friday 23rd March but there’s no confirmation of that on her website just yet.   Sky TV’s own accessible TV guide also shows Russell as being one of the special guests on that date.   The programme airs from 9.00 pm.

3rd March 2018

TWO radio broadcasts this morning … first, on  talkRADIO’s ‘Saturday Breakfast with Penny Smith‘ for a brief conversation and then on BBC Radio 4’s ‘Saturday Live‘ that featured Russell’s brief but fascinating auto-biography to the background music of his two ‘Inheritance Tracks’, Intermezzo from Cavalleria Rusticana and Joe Cocker’s You Are So Beautiful.

2nd March 2018

“Ingeritance Tracks” is a feature of BBC Radio 4’s programme Saturday Live and All About Promotions have posted to Twitter that Russell will be featured in tomorrow morning’s edition from 10 am, though that show’s web page doesn’t reflect this yet … it’s always ‘late’ being updated.

27th February 2018

On Twitter and Facebook, Russell announces that he will be supporting ‘The Brain Tumour Charity‘ by allowing donations to be collected at many of the remaining concerts during his Canzoni d’Amore Tour.

Catch Russell on BBC Radio Kent with Dominic King … programme starts at 4.00 pm this afternoon.  You can catch up now that the show has finished.  He’s on from around 15 minutes in.

26th February 2018

Photographer Loz Taylor, who recently spent time with Russell and Louise at their home, posts to Twitter …

A great photo of them with ‘Obi’.

23rd and 24th February 2018

The Canzone d’Amore Tour starts with brilliant shows in Crewe and Southport.

To avoid ‘spoilers’ we’ve purposely not posted a review on this web site but you can read our report in a Note on our Facebook Page, if you want to, by clicking here.

We’ll simply confirm that there were outstanding performances from Russell and all his entourage that you’ll kick yourselves for missing if you don’t take the opportunity to see one of these shows.

20th February 2018

Russell has kindly agreed to support the charity GM BEE by appearing at their very special fund-raising event on Friday 23rd March 2018 at the Emirates, Old Trafford Cricket Ground, Talbot Road, Stretford, Manchester M16 0PX.

This event is to raise funds in support of those affected by the improvised bomb attack at the Manchester Arena in May last year.

For more information, please visit the GM BEE web page.

Russell appears to have enjoyed watching a little video of his own performance, back in 2014, of the lovely “To Break The Ice“.  He sang this at the Warner Leisure ‘Star Break’ Weekend at their Sinah Warren hotel on Hayling Island, Hampshire, accompanied by the brilliant Robert D C Emery.  The following video is a ‘joint effort’ from our own recording and that of fellow guests  “Russellers Downunder” who superbly edited the clips for YouTube.

Russell is due to perform three more of the Star Break concerts later this year …

Sinah Warren Hotel, Hayling Island  …  Saturday 18th August
Cricket St. Thomas Hotel, Somerset  …   Saturday 29th September
Bodelwtddan Castle, North Wales    …     Saturday 10th November

Details can be found on the Warner Leisure Hotels web page.

18th February 2018

On getting up this morning to listen to BBC Radio 2’s “Good Morning Sunday” we discovered that their web page had been changed and Russell’s name removed.  He wasn’t on and  no explanation was offered.  We just hope that all is well with him and his and that he’ll be on at some future date.

17th February 2018

Russell wasn’t on this morning’s ‘Saturday Live’ but more than a few folk blindly followed Twitter to report that he was.   What can you do?   The web page for the programme seems to be updated late in the week so it will bear watching.

We do expect tomorrow’s “Good Morning Sunday” to have some input from Russell, though, as that has been advertised openly for the past week on their web page.

16th February 2018

Well, as expected, Russell wasn’t on right at the start of today’s ‘Good Morning Britain’ and, from what we could see, almost wasn’t on at all.  A very, very brief appearance in the last couple of minutes that dwelt on his past illness rather than the future was all that we saw.  Disappointing but, still, nice to see him on television at all.

Russell was at the BBC Radio 4 studio today to record for an upcoming episode of “Saturday Live”.  Several venues have gone on Twitter to say that he will be on tomorrow’s programme (from 9 am 17th February)) but we have no firm confirmation of that at this stage and we await further information.  The promotions company have indicated that they will  update on “when you can listen to his interview” (see Tweet below) but they haven’t so far.

15th February 2018

Russell Tweets and posts to his Facebook account that he will be on ITVs “Good Morning Britain” tomorrow.  The programme starts at 6.00 am and ends at 8.30 am with opportunities to catch up afterwards..  No time given for Russell being on but we wouldn’t expect it to be right at the start …

14th February 2018

Two separate venues where Russell is to appear later this year have each posted to Twitter to advertise his forthcoming appearance and have added suggestions that he is to be on the radio and TV later this week.  Russell himself hasn’t mentioned any of these but has clicked to “Like” the Twitter posts.

It will certainly be worth keeping an eye (and an ear) on these programmes … or perhaps we’ll find some further confirmation as the week progresses.

Friday 16th  :  ITV1 … Good Morning Britain

Saturday 17th  :  BBC Radio 4 … Saturday Live

Sunday 18th  :  BBC Radio 2 … Good Morning Sunday
This last one does mention Russell as joining the programme.

12th February 2018

11th February 2018

Russell is expected to be on next week’s “Good Morning Sunday“…

Programmes usually remain available on the BBC’s ‘Listen Again’ for 30 days after first broadcast so we hope there will be plenty of opportunities to catch up if we miss it on Sunday.

A Tweet from Bedworth Civic Hall dated 9th February but only found late this afternoon advertises Russell’s forthcoming appearance there and adds not only the Radio 2 programme above by way of attraction but mentions two more programmes that it says will feature Russell. …

We await confirmation.

9th February 2018

Professional photographer Loz Taylor recently pictured Russell at home and we hope that this brief post on Twitter heralds more to come …

8th February 2018

Russell’s official Facebook Page confirms Laura Wright is to be his special guest on the Canzoni d’Amore Tour, except at Salisbury and Plymouth.

Poetry and Passion

There is to be a new CD titled “Poetry and Passion” released tomorrow, Friday 9th February, on Sepia Records of re-mastered Mario Lanza recordings and it appears that Russell and Lesley Garrett have each contributed to the ‘sleeve notes’, if we read Lindsay Perigo‘s comments correctly on Scoop’s ‘Music of the Gods‘.

6th February 2018

Ahead of tonight’s Sold Out concert in Limerick, Russell was a guest on RTE One’s “Today With Maura and Daithi” and you can see their conversation towards the end of the programme, starting at an hour and 14 minutes in.

Click here  to go to the RTE Player

Russell’s last concert in Ireland is at the National Opera House in Wexford on Friday .

On Twitter this afternoon, Laura Wright is shown as being Russell’s ‘Special Guest’ at Darlington Hippodrome on 4th April.  We hope that this foretells official news of Laura being Russell’s guest throughout the Canzoni d’Amore Tour.

# Confirmed by Russell on Thursday 8th February.

5th February 2018

Sharing this ‘blast from the past’ just found on YouTube

3rd February 2018

Through the Keyhole …

Russell’s home in Cheshire was featured in ITV’s ‘Through the Keyhole‘ and, once it was identified, he made a brief appearance to chat with host ‘Keith Lemon’ and sing a few lines of  ‘Vindaloo‘.

The programme remains available on the ITV HUB for 30 days after broadcast

15th January 2018

3rd January 2018

Russell talks with Henry James for Southport’s newspaper the Champion News and says he’s very much looking forward to his show there on Saturday 24th February.  Russell tells of spending time in the resort as a child … well, didn’t we all?  Have you got your ticket yet?

1st January 2018

Russell sends everyone his very best wishes for the New Year, first via his Twitter account and then on Facebook.

Earlier, Russell had Tweeted his most favourable impression of 2017 … well done YSDB Theatre Academy.
